How can cities integrate renewable energy and storage solutions effectively at district level?
The third edition of the ASCEND Café, held on 28 April 2026, focused on the practical deployment of renewable energy sources, energy storage and the interoperability of urban energy systems. The session brought together the City of Alba Iulia, HESPUL and ASCEND’s sister project POCITYF, represented by UNINOVA-CTS. ascend-project.eu
The discussion explored which renewable energy and storage solutions are most suitable for urban environments, the main barriers cities face when deploying them, and how different energy and digital systems can work together. Speakers also reflected on financing, scalability and the practical steps municipalities can take to accelerate renewable energy deployment.
The session featured contributions from Bruno Gaiddon (HESPUL), Tudor Drambarean and Valentin Voinica (City of Alba Iulia), and Rui Miguel Amaral Lopes (UNINOVA-CTS / POCITYF). ascend-project.eu
