Megyeri Street 

Megyeri Street surrounding area, in the 4th district of Budapest. The area is 33ha, of which 282,259m² is green space. The main actions will cover a former school system, a church and an elderly care institution.

With the end of ASCEND, the proportion of electricity consumption supplied by renewable energy systems will have reached a minimum of 30%. Additionally, there are plans to implement five storage and flexibility systems. The city aims to actively engage its residents in the development of a PCED through participatory budgets and collaborative design of solutions. The concept of Sustainable Urban Development will become the standard approach in urban development processes in Budapest.



The city will test the following SPs:

  • SP3: complex refurbishment of former school (4,500m²) for collective and social housing; PV installations on the roofs of the elderly care homes, of the former schools and the church, at Cemetery, at North-Pest Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP); green waste treatment (Cemetery, North-Pest WWTP) and biogas production; 
  • SP4: e-charging points for municipal fleets and public uses; redesigning and greening of public spaces with permeable pavements, bike and micro-mobility storage; adaptive bus stops and e-mobility stations; 
  • SP5: healthy street concept for redesigning urban spaces through citizen co-creation, participatory budget for PCED solutions; community building, engaging wide-range of local citizens (elderly care, schools, future tenants); 
  • SP6: development of the Sustainable Urban Concept by integrating PCED design to urban planning documents.
