Yesterday, the SPARCSeu Final Conference brought together leading voices from across Europe to discuss the future of urban energy and sustainability. In the afternoon sessions, ASCEND contributed to key discussions on scaling innovative solutions for climate-neutral cities.
In the spotlight were two presentations where ASCEND showcased its approach to positive energy districts (PEDs) and its role in the Scalable Cities community:
1. Stage Takeover:
Bernhard Klassen from the City of Munich presented ASCEND’s vision with a brief introduction to PCEDS (positive and circular energy districts) and how ASCEND plans to tackle them using the Urban Orchestrator. He showcased how digital twins are being used to accelerate Munich's energy transition.
2. The Role of PEDs:
Philippe Fournand from Blue-Sight Conseil, representing both ASCEND and Scalable Cities, explored how the PED/PCED concept has evolved within the Scalable Cities community and what is needed to scale it effectively.
Key insights from the event inlcuded the fact that PEDs are essential for decarbonizing cities, supported by ongoing collaboration through initiatives like SPARCS. Scaling PEDs requires the right methodologies and a focus on driving real, impactful change.
ASCEND is committed to driving this progress forward and looks forward to even more exciting discussions today of the SPARCS Final Conference!
